Any possibility that Shurmur names himself

as the HC/OC?

That's ridiculous, isn't it?
If he's calling plays, he's basically the OC anyway,

but he is going to need someone on board to run offensive drills. His first job is HC, and he can't be spending all of his time with the offense.
agree with above

part of the reason this is not such a good job for an up and coming or established OC is that they will basically be a glorified paper pusher. this will be a PS offense with him calling the plays.

rather this is a great oppty for a young offensive guy, smart but lesser known QB coach who isn't on the immediate radar for an OC job but who could benefit from a few years as a "protected" OC.

Exactly what I was thinking yesterday. If Shurmur can find a young energetic QB coach, they should be all set. Maybe even someone from a college staff with solid creds that wants to make the jump to the NFL.
If anything was combined

I would assume it would be QB coach/OC, not HC/OC. Developing Eli Manning's successor, helping to oversee the implementation of PS's offense, and building game plans is certainly an attractive job.

Shurmur told me he wanted a full fledged OC and itís one of those things he learned from his first season in Cleveland when he didnít have one.
He wonít force an OC, but I donít think heíll go without one.
If he is the OC, then he can't be the HC

I think people vastly underestimate all that a HC does and deals with
I think it's a possibility.

Arians was effusive in his praise of Bettcher, stating that he turned over the entire defensive operation to him in AZ.

That's not accurate at all. There's a lot more to the OC's responsibilities than just the playcalling, and it's not just running drills in practice.
Shurmur as OC

Would be foolish. Donít think that will happen.
Too many HCs have difficulty with being both the HC

and the offensive playcaller. I'd be skittish about Shurmur taking on three roles - HC, OC, and playcaller.

Coughlin, for all his borderline control freak tendencies, always had a designated OC calling the plays.
