Patrick Peterson on Odell

That dude is unreal. I tell you guys all the time to watch him on film hes very scary. Some of the things hes able to do is just mind-blowing. The way hes able to catch the ball. The way hes able to split defenders. His catch radius, Peterson told NJ Advanced Media. Hes very, very strong at the point of attack. Being able to break tackles. Its very tough to find those types of receivers. What hes been able to do for the game in his early career, I havent seen anyone do it before.

that can do what Odell can do. Imagine Odell on Pittsburgh when teams had to focus on the best running back in the NFL. He's doing this in an offense that had nothing else. It's nuts. Trade him for a first round pick(if you're lucky).

You are right and he will get it somewhere else, if not here provided he is completely healthy. Think OBJ likes being here in NYC so we have an edge. The front office got this one right. Reminds of the LT pick, best at his position, you don't let those guys walk when you get them. Wish that was the case with Flowers and Apple but you win some and you lose some.

Brown is a pretty capable at WR.
He certainly is.

He's a superstar. Odell is better.

We will be resigning OBJ. Players like him don't come around very often and you don't just let them walk because of growing pains or sensationalized media attention. Any talks or speculation about trading him on this board is lunacy.
I can't wait to see him in Shurmur's offense

.
Odell is an extremely talented and productive WR.

Concerns about his behavior are so overblown as to be ludicrous. But maybe the new regime can rein it in a bit.

The real issue is, will it be in the Giants' best interest at the time to offer him what the market will likely demand? And I fear, sadly, the answer is maybe not. Unfortunately you often have to let players like this walk.

Every team has a lot of demands upon cap, and you can't just pay up for a WR, even one this talented, without considering the hit in relation to the totality of needs.
Letting him walk shouldn't even be in the discussion
Keith : 2/10/2018 12:31 pm : link
when figuring our your options with Odell. If he's unreasonable with his demands(wanting top QB money), than you franchise tag him until he comes back to reality. I don't think that will need to happen. He'll be the highest paid WR and in the conversation for the highest paid non-QB, IMO.

Patrick Peterson and Odell did not even play together at LSU but ok... guess you cant put any stock into what an elite CB says about an elite WR because they went to the same university

If he wants to be the highest paid WR in the NFL, it's a no-brainer IMO, you pay him. It get's a little dicey if he pulls a Leveon Bell and tries to completely reset the bar at the position. With a year on his contract and the ability of the tag, I don't think it will come to that if we act this offseason. The team still has too much leverage. That nightmare Bell scenario does become a greater reality the longer the team waits.

The Giants are going to open up the vault for Beckham. Do you think Gettleman wants to be known as the GM who let him get away?

Name me a player i any sport who doesn't like to be paid a lot of money.
I can't think of another team
mrvax : 2/10/2018 9:58 pm : link
that would be a spotlight on OBJ and earn him lots of off-field cash except for maybe the Cows.

OBJ and his agent know this. I really think they probably can't re-sign him until 2019 unless he's OK with getting a cap friendly 2018 followed by a guaranteed payoff in 2019 and beyond. (2019 sees Eli and JPP cut for a savings of $29M.)

Peterson's right. Odell's talent is off the charts.
It makes no sense to pay him now
averagejoe : 2/11/2018 11:11 am : link
with his injury history and the fact that Giants can control him for two more seasons with franchise tag. His talent cannot be questioned but his immaturity has hurt the team at times. If he stays healthy and puts up big numbers in new offense they can pay him next year or franchise him.

The franchise tag for WRs is absurdly high. Extending him long term saves the team money. The only reason you'd tag a player long term at a position like that is if you weren't sure about his talent level, like Washington tagging Cousins because you just don't know how good he actually is.

Injury history? A bad hammy 1st year and a broken ankle last year. Yes that is a reason to delay paying him....
Yes...by all means, lets dump OBJ but keep

Eli for a couple more years.

BBI at its best...
Another reason
Daniel in MI : 2/11/2018 3:53 pm : link
They likely re-sign him apart from hes great -- is business. He puts asses in seats, draws eyeballs, and sells merch. Seriously, who else are casual fans tuning in to watch? Eli is 37, we have no star RB or D player (JPP is faded and Vernon is no household name). You sign that kid. He even gets you better TV times when hes in, because hes a marquis player.

LakeGeorgeGiant : 2/11/2018 4:05 pm : link
the Giants won't let Beckham hit the open market any time soon. They still have the 5th year option, and 2 franchise tags.

He will likely play the 5th year, get the tag, and have a deal before he plays a snap on that franchise tag.
