NFT: Fun indoor things to do with toddler in Northeast

tbonfig : 2/9/2018 3:23 pm
So my wife is due in a few weeks and I was thinking it would be fun to take a little trip with my almost 3.5 year old before her world is rocked with a baby in the house.

Any recommendations on a fun day or overnight trip to take not too far from CT?
Great Wolf Lodge

Maritime Aquariam in Norwalk. Also the Stepping Stones Museum

Some ideas

Legoland Discovery Center in Yonkers is pretty cool. Think a lego version of Chuck E. Cheese but better.

If willing to drive a bit further, Philly has a great PleaseTouch Museum, Franklin Institute. Just outside is a great aquarium in Camden.

Great suggestions so far

I've never been to Great Wolf but that was one of the first places I started looking up. Is it fun enough for a toddler?

Maritime is a good suggestion as is Stepping Stones.

I didn't even think about the Crayola Factory - what is there to do there?

Philly is something we are considering but concerned about how far we travel given how close the due date is :)

Thanks everyone!
Umm...Play in a Nor'easter?

.
If you want a little travel, then Boston
pjcas18 : 2/9/2018 3:54 pm : link
has an aquarium, lego land (Somerville), Children's Museum, Fanueil Hall/Quincy Market, Museum of Science and more if you want to travel.

Last weekend we took my kids to the ice bumper cars in Providence, a lot of fun, not sure if I saw any toddlers though, might be a little young. But providence has Dave and Busters too in the providence place mall. disgusting place, not quite as bad as a Chuck E Cheese, but kids like it.

Also a little closer is Mystic Aquarium, which is better than the Boston one.

I was just at GWL last weekend with my daughter. Yes, your toddler will love it, if she loves the water. Tiny slides, medium slides, big slides, wave pool, lazy river, mini-bowling, mini golf in the dark, ice cream parlor.

You probably just need a 2-day/overnight stay, though.
I don't know the spelling and I have never been to either
robbieballs2003 : 2/9/2018 4:07 pm : link
But everybody always mentions Kalahari over Great Wolf Lodge.
GWL is good, depending on how far you want to go from CT

There used to be a CoCo keys in Waterbury but I think it closed.

Please Touch Museum in Philly...

is absolutely perfect for a 3-4 year old. Franklin Institute and Aquarium are also great, but I loved PTM when my kids were that age...

park is my favorite of the 3 (Great Wolf, Kalahari, Camelback). Plenty to do for kids of all ages
Camelback is great...

but just father and 3-yr old son, i would wait a few years and take the family of 4 then.

Please Touch Museum.. or even the Childrens Museum... in Philly are great ideas. The day before I took my job in Florida 5-yrs ago and was about to be going back and forth 2 weeks at a time for 6 months until they moved down with me... my then 3 year old daughter and I took a day trip to Baltimore to visit their acquarium. One of the greatest days of my life, so kudos to you for thinking up this day - you'll have a blast.

(note: unfortunately Inner Harbor has since turned into a shithole so its not a good place to go anymore)
Philadelphia seems like a haul from Connecticut,

Kalahari kicks the shit out of Great Wolf Lodge. It's expensive but awesome
Hey all
tbonfig : 2/9/2018 7:13 pm : link
just checking in again - great recommendations.

I've never heard of Kalahari and I lived a portion of my life in the Poconos.

I used to love Camelbeach when I was younger, but I've never seen it as an indoor park.

We do the trip to Philly often enough, and actually went there this summer to do the PTM and other kids attractions.

Great advice everyone!
Kalahari

is only a few years old.

They also just added onto it recently because they needed a much bigger hotel and bigger waterpark because the place was so popular.

And you think my daughter would have enough to do there? The place looks amazing for a little older but not sure about 3.5

I just went in September with my wife, 5 year old son, and 3 year old daughter. It was actually for my daughters 3rd bday. I was concerned that my daughter would be too afraid to try any of the slides but she really loved it. She stuck to only a few slides but she did them over and over. She didn't want to leave.
Cool
