Nothing special PS player, but Shurmur must like him

Haven't the Giants suddenly got a lot of tight ends again?
81_Great_Dane : 2/8/2018 6:17 pm : link
Do we think they've soured on Jerrell Adams?

And since Keith Ellison left the Vikes (and Shurmur) for the Giants, and now the Giants are stocking up on TE depth, might Ellison be on his way out?

Ellison’s going nowhere. An article came out just a few days ago where Shurmur said he’d like all his players to look to Ellison in order to see what his ideal-type of player would be... or something like that.

Adams had a reputation in college of not working to his potential. He seemed to get the message as a pro his first year but may have relaxed last year.
DG's definitions of someone who plays professional football vs a professional football player may be the reason he will have competition this spring.

I missed that. Interesting.

I was surprised that McAdoo didn't use Ellison more -- he seemed to do everything he was asked to do. Would have given them some flexibility to split Engram out and still use a TE, especially after all those receivers went down. Oh well.

I'm thinking per these replies that Adams is on the hot seat, though.
Too bad for Adams.

He runs a nice seam route.
But that's not enough trick to be a 1 trick pony.
Carter probably works hard, ST a specialty?

Here’s the article...
Shurmur loves him some Ellison! - ( New Window )
He's

not a true TE... he's more of an H-Back.
Hope this works out better than when Reeve's
short lease : 2/8/2018 9:10 pm : link
started to bring his guys over from Denver.
He was a terrible blocker at psu
Banks : 2/8/2018 9:56 pm : link
He made up for it by being a terrible receiver. He peaked as a freshmen and then spiraled all the way down the depth chart. That said, any positive contribution is welcomed

TD catch.

I don't understand this

We have an excellent blocking TE who has good hands and runs routes effectively and another TE that is an amazing WR type who can block a bit. WTH?
Maybe he’s looking at Engram
NikkiMac : 2/9/2018 4:30 am : link
as WR as well they should be.Seems wasted as an in-line blocker but excellent as downfield blocker.
2 things

- This guy was awarded to us off waivers. People usually have 2 reactions to this. This guy is dog meat, why did we sign him or This guy is going to bump XX off the roster. The reality is in the middle. He will compete for a position. The Giants carried 4 tight ends for much of the year.

- As far as fit, his position appears to be the backup to the Engram position who probably will be moved around much more than last year. Right now, I can envision Ellison being the stationary tight end and if he continues to develop Adams being the backup for that position. Carter could backup Engram.
he's a practice squad guy
bc4life : 2/9/2018 7:57 am : link
who is familiar with Shurmur's offense - it's competition, he doesn't have one of the 53 man roster spots
If you don’t have LBs to play special teams, I guess you stock up

on TEs.

Is this an announcement that the Giants are going to use a lot of 2 and 3 TE sets?

ellison was nothing more than Jerrys plan to help the oline on the cheap. Ellison will be lucky if Shurmer does not revert to his previous plan to turn him into a fullback.
This doesn't mean a thing regarding Adams
GeorgeAdams33 : 2/9/2018 10:08 am : link
Speculating as to why we didn't see as much as some might've expected last year we all need to realize that the coaches were focused on figuring out how to use Ellison & Engram. They were also trying to get away from the 3-WR sets while simultaneously trying to figure out WTF to do with a Fullback.

None of this has a thing to do with Adams
