Not to get lost in all of this: Chris Ballard confirmed the #Colts will shift to a 4-3 defense under coordinator Matt Eberflus. Says that scheme fits the team better, built on speed playing indoors 8-12 games a year.

Bucky Brooks (@BuckyBrooks)

Makes sense for the team to shift to a 4-3 under a Rod Marinelli disciple. The Tampa-2 scheme is simple but built on the premise of letting explosive athletes play fast and free. In a dome stadium (w/perfect conditions), team should be built around speed on both side of the ball

Howe Boston Herald: Five most important questions for the Patriots in the offseason

Howe Boston Herald: Indepth look at Patriots’ roster, decisions to be made

“Nate Solder (unrestricted free agent): The left tackle said he wants to keep playing. Would he take another team-friendly two-year, $20 million contract? He could conceivably get $12 million annually on the open market.

LaAdrian Waddle (unrestricted free agent): Didn’t allow a sack all season and showed toughness to return earlier than expected from a sprained ankle and knee. Pats should retain him as the top backup tackle if he doesn’t get a chance to start elsewhere.

Cameron Fleming (unrestricted free agent): Allowed six sacks but is well-liked in the room. Chances to return hinge on Waddle’s status and opportunities to compete elsewhere to start.”

Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe)
2/7/18, 1:24 PM
The Patriots have a projected $14 million in cap space and could gain an extra $25M (to get to $39M in space) by cutting several other vets. Obviously, there’s a short-term approach with Solder, Lewis, Amendola, Slater, Ebner and Burkhead among their impending free agents...

Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe)
2/7/18, 1:26 PM
But don’t be surprised if the Patriots use some of that cap space to secure a loaded group of players whose contracts expire after 2018: Trey Flowers, Shaq Mason, Brandin Cooks, Chris Hogan, Patrick Chung, Stephen Gostkowski and Malcom Brown (if 5th year option is declined).

“Nate Solder (unrestricted free agent): The left tackle said he wants to keep playing. Would he take another team-friendly two-year, $20 million contract? He could conceivably get $12 million annually on the open market.

If it takes $12 Million to get him then I think that is a no-brainer.
Re Raanan: The ESPN headline writer failed to comprehend

Raanan's lead sentence.

Raanan posited five possible perspectives on NYG's SB aspirations (highest to lowest) and went with number four: "lots of work to do."

"Nowhere close", the lowest of the five tiers, wound up in the headline (as "nowhere near").
